Be the Dog: Emotional Sobriety and the Art of Being - Summit Lab
EXPERT:
Chef Andrew Zimmern
DAY & TIME:
Friday, Aug. 28, 2026
12:00 - 1:00 PM
LOCATION:
Jim Santy Auditorium
DETAILS:
Globally renowned speaker Andrew Zimmern shares the story of addiction, collapse, suicide, and the difficult early years of recovery that led him on a 35-year-long quest for a deeper understanding of emotional sobriety. He discovered a simple practice he calls “being the dog”: showing up for others with empathy, presence, safety, and closeness rather than judgment or performance. Dogs do not fix us, lecture us, or outtalk us. They only know how to be with us. In a conversation about recovery, connection, and service, Zimmern explores why learning that lesson is the surest path to a healthier and happier life.
Summit Labs
Summit Labs are the heartbeat of our event and are presented by the Song Summit Foundation. They are discussions that dissect, illuminate, and interrogate the art of music and songwriting. They create an environment of inclusivity that promotes discussion of mental health, substance recovery, representation, and social equity in addition to all things music. A diverse group of artists will lead talks on their own while others will work with subject experts. Labs take place at Jim Santy Auditorium in the City Park Library.
